Role Overview
As a Combat Designer for Battle Royale game built on Unreal Engine, you will be instrumental in crafting the heart of our gameplay experience. You’ll take charge of designing, implementing, and fine-tuning the combat systems to deliver thrilling and immersive encounters for players. Working closely with the design, engineering, and art teams, you’ll ensure that our combat mechanics are finely tuned, balanced, and optimized for maximum enjoyment.
Requirements:
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine: Demonstrated expertise in Unreal Engine 4, with a deep understanding of its capabilities, tools, and best practices for game development.
- Combat Design Experience: Previous experience in a combat design role for video games, with a strong portfolio showcasing your contributions to combat systems and mechanics.

Game Design Skills: Solid understanding of game design principles, particularly in the areas of combat mechanics, player progression, and game balance.
- Scripting and Blueprinting: Proficiency in Blueprint scripting within Unreal Engine, with the ability to prototype and implement gameplay features and systems independently. - Collaborative Mindset: Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, artists, and other stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to game design and the ability to iterate based on player feedback and telemetry data.

Passion for Games: A genuine passion for video games, particularly within the action and shooter genres, with a keen understanding of player motivations and preferences.
Main task pool:
- Combat System Design: Lead the design and implementation of core combat mechanics, including shooting, melee combat, abilities, and movement, leveraging Unreal Engine’s capabilities to create responsive and engaging gameplay.
- Weapon Design: Conceptualize, prototype, and balance a diverse arsenal of weapons within the Unreal Engine framework, considering factors such as damage, accuracy, recoil, and weapon feel.
- Ability Design: Design and implement player abilities and special powers that complement the combat mechanics, ensuring they integrate seamlessly into the Unreal Engine environment and contribute to strategic depth.
- Map and Environment Interaction: Collaborate closely with level designers to create environments that facilitate dynamic combat encounters, utilizing Unreal Engine’s tools for environmental destruction, traversal mechanics, and interactive elements.
- Animation Integration: Work closely with animators to integrate combat animations seamlessly into gameplay, ensuring responsiveness and visual fidelity within Unreal Engine’s animation system.
- Blueprint Scripting: Utilize Unreal Engine’s Blueprint scripting system to prototype and implement gameplay mechanics, interactions, and systems, facilitating rapid iteration and experimentation.
- Optimization and Performance: Optimize combat systems and assets for performance within Unreal Engine, working closely with engineers to identify and address bottlenecks and ensure smooth gameplay across various hardware configurations.
- Playtesting and Iteration: Conduct extensive playtesting sessions, gather feedback, and iterate on combat systems to refine gameplay mechanics, balance, and overall player experience.
- Documentation and Communication: Document design decisions, mechanics, and workflows, and effectively communicate concepts and ideas to other team members, ensuring alignment and clarity throughout the development process.
Will be a plus:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Game Design, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience with multiplayer game development and networking within Unreal Engine.
- Familiarity with source control systems such as Git for collaborative development workflows.
- Knowledge of performance optimization techniques specific to Unreal Engine.
